So yeah, there’ll be silence in the ranks around here for a couple of weeks (maybe three, depending on the amount of sheer laziness piled up by the time I return). In the meantime, though…

Seeing as, so far, the weather has been mighty unfriendly with the budding amateur photographer in search of the nickel tour, I don’t quite have a solid buffer of show-and-tell material yet. Sadly, as you may have noticed (because I have faith in the fidelity of my audience and whatnot), ‘The World According To My Camera’ has been indulging in yet another hiatus for the past month and a half or so (dear God, has it been that long?). Fear not, I am still alive and well, I just haven’t had the time to go running around taking photos to show off around here. For a good cause, I assure you…

On the ‘what I’ve been doing lately’ front, the low-down is fairly simple, namely getting ready for a several month long change of “habitat”, so to speak… More precisely, I’ll be spending a semester in France, working on my dissertation paper. Hilarity is likely to ensue, as well as, hopefully, oodles of photos. That is, of course, assuming your dearly beloved blogger does not get lost in transit, get thrown off the plane, or starve to death because she is incapable of cooking and French cuisine does not sit well with her. Hmm… come to think of it, hilarity should ensue either way.

Still here? Wow, you people are patient. Well, fine… here’s your damn photo…

And last, but simply not least, on the ‘what my friends have been doing lately’ front, you may have noticed something new and clickety a bit lower on the page… And if you haven’t, for the love of God, look at it! It’s shiny and colorful! In case you live in my corner of the world, a few friends of mine have this awesome new site where you can get some pretty nifty discounts on all sorts of stuff. Believe me, it’s really worth a look. And I’m not just saying that because they’re my friends, and as such, awesome individuals by default.

I’ll end this now (since I can almost sense my readers scrolling away impatiently) by saying that sadly, I still can’t promise I’ll be back on my regular weekly schedule of posting, but I will do my best of updating at least once in a blue moon or so, till I can actually get back on track.

I’m also proud to announce that The Photo Argus has once again found it fit to include one of my photos (this particular one, as a matter of fact) in their selection of the weekly challenge contenders. Thanks again to the (by now) infamous pink-shirted-dude, who strikes again as the bearer of good news.

In other, more trivial news, I don’t know about idle hands being the devil’s playthings, but as I’ve come to realize, boredom, soldering irons, and illusions of craftsmanship definitely do not go well together. Your dearly beloved blogger was in quite a pickle last night when her laptop charger, after much deliberation, decided to up and die. It’s roughly at this point that a normal person would take the high road and just replace the damn thing, but nooo… not the polytechnical grad student. Long story short, armed with a soldering iron and oodles of misguided enthusiasm, I decided to perform open-cable surgery on the unfortunate bastard… Hilarity ensues… Which is why I now have a brand new shiny charger, and a smoking, mangled, mess of plastic, copper, and duct tape. The end.

In other news, your dearly beloved blogger will be attending Nijikon this weekend, which is the local Japanese culture/manga/anime/fantasy convention. Sadly, I doubt I’ll be donning any radioactive hair colors this year, but unlike last year, I’ll be doing more than just dropping by over there, so I should at least bring back some photo goodies for this place. Or… you know… get drunk on sake and not remember a thing. Cherry-oh!

Anyways, in completely unrelated news, it’s bragging time yet again, as ‘The World According To My Camera’ (or more precisely, my Flickr upload of ‘Rise and Shine’) has made it to the final selection for the ‘In The Shadows’ challenge on The Photo Argus. Yay! By the way, a big thank you to everyone’s favorite pink shirted dude, for the good news. Couple that with the fact that my plucky little bike has been miraculously resurrected in what seems like a better condition than it was even when brand new (again, thanks where thanks are due), and I suppose I can say it’s been a pretty good week.

Moving on, today’s photo-of-the-week is a bit of eye candy from Split, Croatia (which is stunningly beautiful, by the way, especially at night, strolling along the coast)…

Anyway, as you may have noticed… <insert drumroll here>… The World According To My Camera has not only moved to its own personal little corner of online space, but has also been subjected to a major facelift. Also, for those not inclined to read any of my nonsense, there’s now a slideshow page, where you can just view the photos without being bored to death. Other than that, I’m pretty sure there’s still a small heap of kinks I need to sort out that haven’t occurred to me yet, so if you’re looking around and something Twilight Zone-ish happens all of a sudden, fear not… I’ve merely forgotten something behind. So bear with me and know that any bug report would be greatly appreciated. And if you happen to hear a Muttley-like grumbling sound while said bug report is being greatly appreciated, be a dear and just ignore it. All in all, I hope all these changes to be for the best.

But enough news for now, time to resume our regularly scheduled program. Chef’s specialty for this week – Urban Sunset…
