Why, hello there, boys and girls, long time no see. Sadly, as you may have noticed (because I have faith in the fidelity of my audience and whatnot), ‘The World According To My Camera’ has been indulging in yet another hiatus for the past month and a half or so (dear God, has it been that long?). Fear not, I am still alive and well, I just haven’t had the time to go running around taking photos to show off around here. For a good cause, I assure you…

On the ‘what I’ve been doing lately’ front, the low-down is fairly simple, namely getting ready for a several month long change of “habitat”, so to speak… More precisely, I’ll be spending a semester in France, working on my dissertation paper. Hilarity is likely to ensue, as well as, hopefully, oodles of photos. That is, of course, assuming your dearly beloved blogger does not get lost in transit, get thrown off the plane, or starve to death because she is incapable of cooking and French cuisine does not sit well with her. Hmm… come to think of it, hilarity should ensue either way.

Still here? Wow, you people are patient. Well, fine… here’s your damn photo…

You guessed it, it’s been snowing lately…

And last, but simply not least, on the ‘what my friends have been doing lately’ front, you may have noticed something new and clickety a bit lower on the page… And if you haven’t, for the love of God, look at it! It’s shiny and colorful! In case you live in my corner of the world, a few friends of mine have this awesome new site where you can get some pretty nifty discounts on all sorts of stuff. Believe me, it’s really worth a look. And I’m not just saying that because they’re my friends, and as such, awesome individuals by default.

I’ll end this now (since I can almost sense my readers scrolling away impatiently) by saying that sadly, I still can’t promise I’ll be back on my regular weekly schedule of posting, but I will do my best of updating at least once in a blue moon or so, till I can actually get back on track.

As always, cheers!

…and a day, to be precise, your dearly beloved blogger was deeply entangled in the complicated process of having been… well… a person… for no more than about half an hour. Which, as the powers that be decided a long, long time ago, is reason enough for one to celebrate and receive presents and all that. And who am I to say no to that? In other words, it was my birthday yesterday, so please… no loud noises and/or bright lights… my aching head will dearly appreciate it. As it will the mornings after the other two birthday bashes that are yet to come.

In the meantime, you’ll excuse the celebratory photo-of-the-week…

Alright, so obviously, the fireworks weren’t for me, but still… it does one’s ego good to see fireworks on one’s birthday. Cheers!

Getting back to the Balkantrip series, today’s photo-of-the-week is a gloom-and-doom-ey shot of Belgrade, taken through the raindrop-ridden window of our hostel…

I’m also proud to announce that The Photo Argus has once again found it fit to include one of my photos (this particular one, as a matter of fact) in their selection of the weekly challenge contenders. Thanks again to the (by now) infamous pink-shirted-dude, who strikes again as the bearer of good news.

In other, more trivial news, I don’t know about idle hands being the devil’s playthings, but as I’ve come to realize, boredom, soldering irons, and illusions of craftsmanship definitely do not go well together. Your dearly beloved blogger was in quite a pickle last night when her laptop charger, after much deliberation, decided to up and die. It’s roughly at this point that a normal person would take the high road and just replace the damn thing, but nooo… not the polytechnical grad student. Long story short, armed with a soldering iron and oodles of misguided enthusiasm, I decided to perform open-cable surgery on the unfortunate bastard… Hilarity ensues… Which is why I now have a brand new shiny charger, and a smoking, mangled, mess of plastic, copper, and duct tape. The end.

In yet another break from the Balkantrip series, The World According To My Camera is slipping into the Halloween spirit, or as I’ve affectionately dubbed it, “American holiday that makes its way into other unsuspecting countries’ cultures and makes itself at home, like that annoying uncle that just won’t leave already”. I kid, I kid… pumpkin pie is a pretty damn good redeeming quality.

Either way, the ghoulish imagery du jour is brought to you in the form of an older concert photo, with a black and white treatment, and a bitchin’ new texture overlay (because I’m confident, like that)…

Bat shaped pumpkin cookies for whomever guesses what concert this was…

P.S. Don’t be ridiculous, no cookies for anyone, they’re all mine!

Top o’ the mornin’ ta ye, nice folks! And what a lovely morning it is, after all that pesky rain we’ve been having lately. Moving on, today’s photo-of-the-week is another sunset shot from the top of Kotor…

As for the charming young man channeling Angus, this would be my friend George, better known to his buddies as Georges Le Champignon, in one of his more intense moments of badassery. It being his birthday in a few days, I figured this would make a nice pre-”happy birthday”.

In other news, your dearly beloved blogger will be attending Nijikon this weekend, which is the local Japanese culture/manga/anime/fantasy convention. Sadly, I doubt I’ll be donning any radioactive hair colors this year, but unlike last year, I’ll be doing more than just dropping by over there, so I should at least bring back some photo goodies for this place. Or… you know… get drunk on sake and not remember a thing. Cherry-oh!

…Which is a pretty good description of my state of mind at the moment, seeing how your dearly beloved blogger is nursing a royal hangover right now. Screwdriver flavored, if I remember correctly, and yes, the epic get-together was way worth it…

Anyways, in completely unrelated news, it’s bragging time yet again, as ‘The World According To My Camera’ (or more precisely, my Flickr upload of ‘Rise and Shine’) has made it to the final selection for the ‘In The Shadows’ challenge on The Photo Argus. Yay! By the way, a big thank you to everyone’s favorite pink shirted dude, for the good news. Couple that with the fact that my plucky little bike has been miraculously resurrected in what seems like a better condition than it was even when brand new (again, thanks where thanks are due), and I suppose I can say it’s been a pretty good week.

Moving on, today’s photo-of-the-week is a bit of eye candy from Split, Croatia (which is stunningly beautiful, by the way, especially at night, strolling along the coast)…

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go take a brief nap for a couple of days or so. Cherry-oh!

In other (joyous) news, ‘The World According To My Camera’ (not to mention the owner) is positively glowing with delight since Onexposure (which is probably the most awesome multi-artist online photography gallery around) published my first photo. Not only did this make that particular photo doubly significant to me, but I also couldn’t believe the feedback and warm welcome I got from both screeners and commentators alike. I definitely hope this to be only the first of several such events.
Cheers!

Luckily, it being light-contact, I didn’t get to witness any teeth flying about or anything along those lines, and I did get a few interesting photos. One of them was of this little guy, looking a bit nervous before his fight…

For the record, as I recall, he did win that one.

As promised, this is the final installment (for now) in the urban decay series. Till I decide to go running around abandoned building sites again, anyway. Also, that was actually my grandfather’s ball-game-on-Saturday-afternoon radio, but for some reason it still reminds me of that very song (which I happen to really, really like, by the way). Either way, enjoy!

And in other news, my little arts and crafts project is finally complete (boy, it took me a while) and I know it’s not perfect, but I’m actually quite pleased with the way it turned out. If anyone would care to take a look, I give you… <drumroll>… The World According To My Camera: The Album (Vol. I).

…and reluctantly washing the ‘Techno Red’ highlights out of my hair. I kid you not, that’s what it said on the box.

New year’s vacation (the term ‘party’ would be much more appropriate, but writing about a continuous five day party makes me question things) was a riot and beautifully surreal (as expected from said company). Among the highlights were the traditional epic snowball fight (with Wagner playing in the background… in my head), someone disinfecting their butt with whiskey (for a sledding related cut, you perverts!), me putting on my new year’s eve make-up by the light of a headlamp (thank heavens for backup generators), a private guitar concert in the snow, various party-goers attempting to sleep in said snow, a food fight beginning with what shall remain the motto of the trip – “Put down the polenta, man!”, never going to bed before 6 AM, and enough alcohol fumes to cause the entire house to spontaneously combust. I should’ve mentioned the Eurotrip crew being a small part of the new year’s mob, but then none of the highlights would’ve been surprising.

On the photographic front, there’s really not much to ‘show and tell’, seeing how I only took a handful of photos (and most of those should not be unleashed upon the unsuspecting world), after my camera caught a glimpse of the two other cameras around and, feeling in the presence of greatness, went and cowered in shame in a deep dark corner of my backpack. I will, however, share a photo I took a couple of months ago, of another campfire, reminding me of this vacation’s campfire, which, in the good spirit of the trip, was built on the first night, rather than the last…

In other news, Eurotrip 2.0 is already pretty much settled route-wise (for the most part, anyway), and now in the process of being settled financially-wise, for the purpose of which I am willing to make the ultimate sacrifice (oh, the horror) – not go to *both* the AC/DC *and* the Chris Rea concert within the next few months. Deciding to which one I *shall* go is a whole other matter, so I’m having an actual ‘Sophie’s choice’ moment here. Either way, enjoy the photo and a happy new year to everyone!
